Bachmann’s Store is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a street party this July. Learn more about the festivities and Bachmann’s impressive history as a staple of business in Central Lake since 1942.

This is an official press release brought to you by MyNorth News Service and Bachmann’s Store.

Bachmann’s Store in Central Lake, one of the last remaining authentic “five-and-dimes,” is celebrating their 80th year in business with a street party on July 29, 2022.

Founded by Paul and Winnie Bachmann in 1942, this one-of-a-kind store is known for its unique selection of pretty much everything a person could want. Toys, games and puzzles? Check. Souvenirs? Check. Kitchen supplies? Yes. Office supplies? Of course! Books? YES! Resort wear? Roger. Notions, fabrics and crafts? Yepper. Bird feeders, wind socks, cool gifts, candles…? A thousand times, YES!

An authentic general store for eighty years, Bachmann’s sells something for everyone. Shoppers feel transported to an earlier time when they stroll the wooden floors and are able to have their purchases gift-wrapped free of charge or delivered right to their doorsteps.

The store has remained in the same family since the beginning, and now is owned by Paul and Winnie’s grandchild, Michelle. She loves the opportunity and challenges that come with carrying on the family business.

Shopping at Bachmann’s is more than a trip to the store. The historic 1902 building still has its original wood floors and entrance door. Still in service is the 1920s-era cash register that Paul Bachmann purchased USED in the 1940s. Probably the coolest part of the building is the elaborate vault from an earlier time when it was home to Antrim County Bank (1902-1933).

The staff at Bachmann’s Store still uses the 1920s era cash register that Paul Bachmann, the store’s founder, purchased secondhand in 1945.

Adding to the celebration is our neighbor, FUDGEES as they celebrate TEN years in business. Many know FUDGEES for their fantastic fudge, taffy and ice cream. Matt and Stacy Hamilton have been serving the scoops in downtown Central Lake since 2012!

FUDGEES and BACHMANN’S, a winning combination!

Kids of all ages find their favorite candy at Bachmann’s enormous candy counter.

Bachmann’s Birthday Bash starts at 7 p.m. on July 29 in front of the store in downtown Central Lake. Music will be provided by the Pine River Jazz Band. Please bring a lawn chair.

Come party with us like it’s 1942!
