Some things just belong together: Hot dogs and baseball, popcorn and movies, waffles and snowy slopes.
At The Highlands, the cozy glow of a brand-new Waffle Cabin beckons skiers and snowboarders, the smell of baking butter and sugar wafting throughout the Harbor Springs resort.
The menu is simple: Belgian sugar waffle. Yes, that’s it.

“These are dough-based yeast waffles,” says owner, aka Chief Waffle Executive, Emerson Meyer. “We proof and rise the dough for more than an hour and then cook them hot and fresh on our European waffle irons.”
The heat melts the Belgian pearl sugar, creating a crispy, caramelized exterior. Inside, the texture is soft, chewy and buttery with a hint of vanilla. You can order one up with or without a chocolate drizzle, but Meyer suggests first-timers stick with the famous original: it’s that good.
Waffle Break: Follow your nose and you’ll find the cabin near The Highlands’ Camelot 6 chairlift. At Boyne Mountain, head to the base of Mountain Express.
